I drove to the stable with my new dog Gonzo in a half exited but half solomn mood. I had two foals and puppies arriveing any day now but yet that ment that I would have to sell some of my horses! I loved each and every one of them but I just didn't have space for many more and knew I had to down-sixze. I heaved a frustrated sigh as I pulled into the stable drive for the evening feeding. I kept Gonzo on his leash since he hadn't been here before and he followed me as I fed all the horses. I first fed the mares: Windy, Foxy, Wish, Friskey, Queenie, and Nellie. Then the stallions and geldings: Dream, Buck, Churchhill, Max, Heart, Jumping to conclussions, Abbervail/Abby, Flash, Magic Man, Bleu, Bailey, Willow, and Pointer. Then the babies/colts: Cloud/High Cloud, Mav, and Flip. After everyone was done eating I let all the stallys out, the Magic man, then Wish and Windy, and then the expactant mothers Friskey, Queenie, Nellie, and Foxy. I then retrated to my office and began making arrangements to sell a few of my horses.

I arrived somewhat refreshed the next morning though my mind had been restless all night. As I pulled into the drive in front of the stables, parked, and got out heading into the barn I was still worried. I had puppies and foals due any day now and I had just bred Windy the day before. Molly looked fine, only a little plump and I was releved to see that when I rounded the corner to the mommy pasture that none of my horses had had their babies over night. If they had... I shuddered not even wanting to think about the possibilities. "Hey girls" I said greeting all the mares, all but Wish and Windy who were in a differant pasture. I grabbed Nellie's halter first and led her into the barn. I gave her her feed in cross ties for I would have to make an inspection of alll the pregnant mares after the were done eating and before they went to their stalls. When the vet was here last he had said to keep them all on stall rest when they had reached 6 or 7 days from their due date so today was the day for Nellie and Queenie to be put on stall rest. I returned to the passture for all mares but Wish and put each one in crosss ties and gave them their feed. Then I put Wish and Magic Man into their stalls and then all of the stallions. Once everyone was in his or her stall and had begun eating all of the soon-to-be momies were almost ddone with their feed. I started with Nellie and proceeeeded down the line until every mare had been checked out. The vet wouldd be here in a few days to check them all over but until then I put all the other mares in there stalls and proceeded to file the paper work on my examinations:
Black Eyed Nellie: Size: Good Weight: Good Movement of foal: LOTS! Possition of foal: GREAT! Size of foal: Large! Time until Due: 6 Days!
Queenie's Golden Trophie: Size: Good Weight: Good Movement of foal: LOTS! Possition of foal: Feels Good Size of foal: Pretty normal Time until Due: 6 Days!
Grand Illusion: Size: medium Weight: ok, still gaining Movement of foal: some Possition of foal: ok, is hard to tell... Size of foal: a bit small... Time until Due: ?
Sly Fox: Size: Good Weight: Good Movement of foal: LOTS! to fair Possition of foal: Feels Good Size of foal: medium/normal Time until Due: ?
Race The Wind: Size: same mostly Weight: a little over usual Movement of foal: none Possition of foal: can't tell... Size of foal: small Time until Due: Almost 3 weeks

I sadly opened Friskey's old stall and stripped her bedding. After I had replaced the bedding I even more sadly removed the brass name plate off of her stall and stared down at it: GRAND ILLUSSION I felt a few tears trickle down my cheek.. I layed the name plate on the office desk and then ran into the paddock where Shadow was staying until I got his new stall ready for him. I threw my arms around his neck and cryed into his mane. ONce I had gotten over my crying fit I clipped his lead to his halter and led him insdie his new stall. Once he was comfertable I closed the stall door behind me and headed to the office. There I put Friskey's name plate in the special box where I kept Abby's, Jane's, and the name plates of all the other horses I had ever sold. Then I unwrapped his from the bubble wrap it was packaged in when it had been shipped to me and walked to Shadow's stall. I smiled as he nudged me over the stall door. I slid his new name plate into the slot on his new stall and smiled at it proudly: IN THE SHADOWS. I gave Shadow a pat and a kiss on the nose and headed back into the office to work on some paper work haveing to do with the final sales of Abby and Friskey, some lease papers on Magic Man, and the lease and sale of Flame.

"Easy girl!" I called as my new Wild mustang mare April reared high into the air "Easy!" She came back down looking terriffied. Her eyes rolled in every direction and her coat was already lathered with sweat. Since she had been wild she wasn't trained exept for halter and lead and she wasn't used to any of her surroundings. I opened the metel gate of the padock I had prepared for her and unhooked her lead she began pacing frantically before finally settleing down under the little shed in her paddock. I began unloading Radar and surprisingly Radar unloaded clamly and walked easily to his passture. I Unclipped his lead and he walked over to the watter trough in HIS paddock and began to drink.

"Hey!" I greeted Lisa, seeing her come out of Foxy's stall. "You want to try Buck out on the trails?" I asked "cuz I was going to take Sugar Maple for a ride and I would LOVE the company. Plus Buck hasn't been ridden in FOR EVER! But don't worry, he'll still be a good boy. So are you in?"

"It's ok" I said patting her on the back. "Calm down, he probably just got in a fight in the passture or something. You can still ride him and he's going to be ok."

"Well, I don't know. He should be ok to ride though." I say, scratching my chin. His tack is on the labled rack in the tack room, just tack him up and we'll take him for a ride and see how he does."
p.s. Kath wants to know why you are still on at such a late hour and says that we are both going to write you letters w/ pictures.
