(Okay, I tend to write like it's a story, so bear with me..)
I was proud of my new horse, Automatic Stop. He was a beauty; chestnut coat, glossed to perfection, excellent feet, head perfectly positioned atop a fine muscular neck. I stopped the truck and hopped out, grabbing a lead rope. As I came around the back of the trailer, I saw Auto's fine head staring out the back. He looked nervous. I smiled and started cooing to him before I attempted to unload him. He was my second horse, so I had several stalls to fill in my 28-horse barn. He bugled his entrance and Manly called back, probably hoping it was a mare.
I unlatched the trailer door and walked in, slipping the halter over my new stallion's head. He charged out ahead of me, leaving me to be dragged as the length of the lead rope was reached. I yanked back and Auto stood perfectly still, head high. He sniffed the air before charging away toward Manly's paddock. I managed to hang on, but barely.
He stopped again, and I nearly ran into him. I walked cautiously around him to his head, and dragged the lead. We walked calmly into the barn from there, and I put him in a stall in the same aisle as Manly's. I latched the stall door and went to move his trunk and other equipment into the tackroom. I liked the new barn, but it was empty. I was considering taking on boarders, but I did want to keep it as a Hunter specialty barn.
When everything was set, I brought Auto out on to the crossties to start grooming him.
